“History” is a famous word that generally known as a “study of past”. It may be related to human, event, geographical, medical, literature or anything else that happened in the past and documented, written or narrated by someone for any means like betterment of future society. This word “History” comes from a Greek word “Hisoria” which means “Inquiry” or “Knowledge”. In Hindi, it is called as “इतिहास”, originated from Sanskrit language which is combined version of “इति”+“हास” where “इति” means past and “हास” means event.
Whenever we talk about History, one name must be memories, “Herodotus”. Developing History as the subject was the concept of this Greek historian. He has written the first book on history named “The Histories” in around 426 and 415 BC in interest to aware and informs future generation about the importance and consequences of the event played at that time by composing stories identified war, kingdom & faith. By this means we know him as a “Father of the History” (and “Father of Lies” also). However, in Indian History, Vedas are believed to be the oldest documents on the History and civilization.
“A generation which ignores history has no past and no future.”- Robert Heinlein
History becomes “The History” by forwarding information to the preceding by someone through narrating, documented or by physical evidences. History can be claimed true by evidences only like sculptures, handwritten sign on stone, painting, buildings, coins or any books such as “The Histories”.
The study of history is must for several reasons, such as it describes the experience of past events that may be created in the future and add advantages to discover us an approach to handle that specific issue. It also helps us to avoid making the same mistakes that our predecessor has made. In the past, many of events have been registered, from which we can get some motivation too. From History, we can get an idea how people lived, how they managed to develop agriculture, how they learn to communicate using languages, how they develop culture that are full of festivals and what is the importance as well as scientific reason to celebrate it, how they get industrialized, how they got educated enough to build proper civilization, how they get started utilizing natural resources to use in daily routine life. There are a large number of “How” in our brain when we think about our ancient ages, and to resolve all these questions, study of history becomes must. History also shows us how different religions have been developed and in what circumstance they have been developed, by knowing these we can solve many religion issues that we are facing now days which was not why it has been developed. History also displays the trends of humankind over the years and by studying it, we can know more about it in the future. The Study of history helps us to identify the personalities and its decisions. Keeping it all together, History causes us to understand that we as a whole human beings are the product of only one organization created by almighty.
History can be divided according to many factors like, according to literacy skills they have started using, tools they have used, kingdom they worship, culture they follow and time they lived in. For an example time period until the human learned writing skill known as pro-historic age and thereafter period known as pre-historic. When they have started using stone as tool / element for routine life, that era was known as a Stone Age period. Likewise, all these era/ages have been named after the particular significance they have.
In the end, whatever we have today is the result of efforts and wisdom that our ancient procedures have. And we should think about our future generation about what will we left for them? An environmental crisis, a war zone on whole planet or the conformist religion that kills human kind itself.
